SUMMARY:Nature Talks - Every Garden Matters with Nicola Hope
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we learn why every garden matters and how small gardens are helping to prevent biodiversity loss with Nicola Hope. \n“I am closely affiliated with the charitable organisation Garden Organic who published the ‘Every Garden Matters – a blueprint for boosting backyard biodiversity’ report in 2024. The report contains some extraordinary findings that I am very keen to present to as many people as possible\, with permission and support from Garden Organic. I want to show that a few small gardening changes could halt biodiversity loss.” \nNikki runs a successful organic gardening consultancy and garden design service. She holds the prestigious title of Royal Horticultural Society Master of Horticulture and has a diploma in professional garden design from the Cotswold Gardening School. \nAfter leaving school Nikki studied Art and Design followed by Fine Art at Cardiff but longed for the university holidays when she worked as an assistant gardener at Highgrove for HRH Prince of Wales. She went on to study Organic Horticulture at Pershore College and Worcester University. Botanical travels to southern Africa\, south-western China and alpine Italy followed and she found wonderful gardening positions at Sting’s Lake House\, The Abbey House Malmesbury and leading designer Anoushka Hempel’s Cole Park. Nikki rose through the ranks to become an inspiring head gardener in a beautiful Cotswold garden. All the while she has continued to develop her knowledge and individual style. \nShe specialises in creating beautiful\, functional and wildlife-friendly gardens\, has a particular interest in organic fruit\, vegetable and flower production and has an all-consuming passion for topiary! \nThis talk is part of a series at Vallis Farm that focus on wildlife\, biodiversity\, sustainability\, climate change and regenerative farming as part of an ongoing project. \nAttendees can arrive from 6.30pm at the farm and help themselves to refreshments before the event starts. \nWe can provide a limited number of free tickets for students or those with financial concern.
